USA's Role in the Cold War

USA's role in the cold war was mainly to stop communism from spreading. Being a capitalist country we did not believe in communism, but one of our allies in World War 2 did. The Soviet Union quickly went from being our friend to our enemy. There was many times where we were close to bombing each other, but nothing ever happened. The USA never fired upon Russia, although this war went on for 30 or 40 years. Many people now look at us like we were the good guys, and the Soviets were the bad guys. Communism may have spread to a few neighboring countries but we held the Soviets to that, containment was our main plan.
